Farkle is a popular dice game also known as farkel, hot dice, zonk, 10 thousand, wimp out, and buzzball. The game is played with 6 dice, shaken in a cup and thrown by players who count points based on certain outcomes. The goal of farkle is to be the first to collect 10,000 points.

The game begins with a player throwing 6 dice on the table after they have been shaken in a cup. Most online Casinos offer virtual cups for players to click and then roll online dice with random outcomes. After the throw, the player counts the points they've collected and decides which dice to keep and which ones to throw again. It is important to note that not all of the dice bring you points or “score”, so that in most cases the player will have to throw the dice more than once. The player may end their turn after any throw and collect the points they've scored. As many as six throws are allowed, because after each of the throws the player has to put at least one die aside, although they can put more aside if they wish. For example, if the player throws 1-3-4-2-2-2 they have the following options:

  • Keep three 2's for 200 points and throw the other three dice again.
  • Keep only the 1 for 100 points and throw the other five dice again.
  • Keep three 2's and the 1 for a total of 300 points and throw the other two dice again.
  • Keep three 2's and the 1 for a total of 300 points and don't throw the other dice any more.

The risk is that on any throw the player might farkle and lose all of their points. This can happen if none of the dice score, leaving the player with no more points to count after a roll. For example, if you get 1-2-3-5-5-5 on your first throw and decide to keep three 5's and the 1, and then throw the remaining dice again and get 4-6, you farkle because your second throw did not score. This means that you also lose any points from your first throws. Therefore, once you have scored enough points with several dice on the first try, it is better not to throw the dice for a second time.

It is also important to note that the dice combinations have to be collected during a single throw. This means that two 5's kept from your first throw do not add up with a single 5 from the second one to form a combination of three 5's.

Farkle Strategy

As in many of the casino-style games, farkle players depend mostly on chance and luck, with skill being a secondary factor in winning. However, there are a few tips to use when playing farkle. First, you should always check the paytable before you start playing. There are several game variations which employ different rules on how the points are awarded for each combination, and some even include added combos that award additional points. Another thing to note is that you don't always have to keep all of the scoring dice. For example, if you get a single 1 and a single 5 on your first throw you should only keep the 1 and throw the other five dice again. It is always best to end your turn when you only have one or two dice left, as the chances of getting a 1 or a 5 are not great, and rolling a combo of three is obviously out of the question. Of course, you may always take the risk, but the chances of getting a farkle at this point are considerable, and you could very well end up with nothing.

You should also beware of three farkles in a row, as it cuts 500 points from your total score. Therefore, if you get two consecutive farkles it is best to keep any points on your following throw and not re-roll any leftover dice, rather than take the risk of getting the third farkle and losing 500 points.
