Popular Roulette Betting Patterns2007-05-28
Elyshia P.
Roulette is a popular game of chance that is played by a wide range of players – from complete casino novices through to experienced gamblers. Its popularity is due to the simplicity of the rules – you bet on a number and if the ball lands on your number you win! Of course there are many more betting options, but you don't have to be a mathematician to figure out how to play.
Because Roulette is so widely played by casual casino punters, and in the knowledge that there is no system that can be used to beat the game, players often come up with their own betting patterns that they like to use while they play. Many players like to go with the birthdays of family and friends. Some players prefer to only bet on their set of 'lucky' numbers, while some players follow the previous trends of red or black to try and predict which color will appear next! These superstitions may or may not be successful but it certainly adds some fun and enjoyment to the game. Many of the more experienced players also adopt popular betting patterns when they play Roulette. Rather than choosing random numbers, there is a popular trend to pick numbers that cover sections of the wheel. The means that if the ball lands anywhere in that area of the wheel then you are going to have a winning number. By doing this you also can clearly determine how much of the wheel you have covered, so you can calculate your chances of winning accurately. Over time, these sections of the wheel have been given special nicknames to describe the series of bets. Here is some information about some of the more popular betting patterns: Neighbours Bet (Voisin du Nombre): A Neighbours Bet describes a 5 chip bet on any number plus the two numbers on either side of it on the roulette wheel. For example, it may be a bet on the number 0 and the two numbers either side of it: 3, 26, 32 and 15. Zero Neighbours bet (Voisins du Zero): This popular bet covers every number on the wheel between 22 and 25, covering nearly half of the wheel. The series is 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, 25. You can make this bet using only 9 chips. Place 2 chips on the 0/2/3 street; 1 on the 4/7 split; 1 on 12/15; 1 on 18/21; 1 on 19/22; 2 on 25/26/28/29 corner; and 1 on 32/35. A Third Bet (Tiers du Cylindre): As the name describes, this bet covers about a third of the wheel on the opposite side to the Zero Neighbours bet. It covers the series of numbers 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, 33. To place this bet, place 1 chip on each of the splits: 5/8; 10/11; 13/16; 23/24: 27/30; 33/36. Full Orphans Bet (Orphelin Plein): This bet covers the remaining numbers that have not been covered in any of the above bets, comprising of two slices on either side of the wheel. Simply place 1 chip on each number in the series: 1, 6, 9, 14, 17, 20, 31, 34. Orphans Split Bet (Orphelin Cheval): Using the same numbers as the Full Orphans bet, but this time we only use 5 chips in total by betting on the splits: 6/9; 14/17; 17/20; 31/34 with an additional chip on the number 1. Often these bets are made in combinations to cover even larger sections of the wheel. This usually means a large outlay of chips each round, but also equates to a large return if one of your numbers comes up. These betting patterns may make you feel more like a pro at the Roulette table, but the reality is that the true odds of using such patterns gives no advantage over the casual player who simply picks birthday numbers! So just go with your instinct and hope that you get lucky! News CategoriesRSS xml feed
