ePassporte to join NETeller in US Withdrawal?2008-04-12
Jonny Vincent
Rumors are circulating fast that popular online payment processor ePassporte may have decided to withdraw from the US market and may even shut down services for the entire online gambling industry.
ePassporte is one of the few remaining online payment methods available to US online gamblers, and if the rumors prove to be more than just, ePassporte may have also succumbed to US DoJ pressure and is planning to join NETeller in withdrawing from the US market. The rumors were ignited today by a bulk email sent out by Cake Poker to players, advising that they were no longer able to process ePassporte deposits and withdrawals, and that confirmation had been received that ePassporte would no longer be providing eWallet services to the online gaming industry. Gambling news services are carrying conflicting reports about the situation. Gambling911 quoted an ePassporte statement confirming plans to withdraw from the US, due to "a widespread investigation of Internet gambling, including poker" by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York. However, OGPaper reports that an ePassporte representative today denies claims ePassporte was planning to discontinue payment services for the online gambling industry, with the representative citing "technical issues" as the reason why online gamblers are currently unable to deposit using their ePassporte accounts. CasinoPokerNews was unable to contact ePassporte by phone this evening, and we are awaiting a response to our request for an official statement regarding the issue. As rumors of this nature will almost certainly lead to a run on ePassporte account balances, it may be prudent to withdraw ePassporte balances until the situation is resolved. CasinoPokerNews will continue reporting on this issue as developments occur. News CategoriesRSS xml feed
